This is the SetJetChina privacy policy. SetJetChina is a travel guide for international fans of Chinese drama. We do not sell your data, we do not build advertising profiles, and we collect as little as we can get away with. This page explains exactly what happens to your information when you visit.

Who we are under this privacy policy
SetJetChina (setjetchina.com) is an independent editorial website publishing English-language guides to Chinese drama filming locations and practical China travel information.
For any privacy question or request, contact us through the form linked from our About page. We aim to reply within 30 days.
What the SetJetChina privacy policy lets us collect
We collect two kinds of information, and only two.
1. Information you give us. If you use a contact form or subscribe to our email list, we receive whatever you type — typically your name and email address. We use it to reply to you, or to send you the updates you asked for. We do not add you to anything you did not ask for.
2. Information collected automatically. Like almost every website, ours records standard technical data when you visit: pages viewed, referring page, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type, and the time of your visit. This is aggregated and used to understand which guides are useful and which are not.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16, and we do not intentionally process special-category data of any kind.
Email updates (the SetJetChina newsletter)
We keep a small email list, and we would rather it stayed small and useful. This is exactly what happens if you subscribe.
- What we store. Your email address, the date you subscribed, which page you subscribed from, and the version of this consent wording you agreed to. We do not store your IP address alongside your subscription, and we do not ask for your name.
- Why we store it. To send you an occasional email when we publish a new drama route, a new filming-location guide, or a fact-check update. Nothing else.
- How often. Only when there is something genuinely new — typically a few emails a month at most. No daily digests and no automated drip sequences.
- Your consent. You are added only if you tick the consent box yourself. Consent is our legal basis (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) and you may withdraw it at any time.
- Unsubscribing. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to delete your address entirely.
- How long we keep it. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Who else sees it. No one. We do not sell, rent or share the list, and we never pass your address to affiliate partners.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use three categories:
| Category | Purpose | Can you refuse? |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Remember your consent choice, keep the site working, protect against abuse | No — the site cannot function without them |
| Analytics | Understand in aggregate which pages are read and how visitors arrive | Yes |
| Affiliate | Attribute a booking to this site when you click a partner link, so we are paid a commission | Yes, by not clicking partner links |
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may break parts of the site. Blocking affiliate cookies does not change the price you pay — it only means we do not earn a commission.
Third parties we work with
We rely on a small number of service providers. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:
- Hosting and CDN — our host stores the site and serves it to you, and necessarily processes IP addresses and request logs.
- Analytics — aggregate traffic measurement.
- Email service provider — only if you subscribe to our list.
- Affiliate networks and travel partners — when you click a booking or product link, the partner may set a cookie to attribute the referral. See our affiliate disclosure.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. We do not share your email address with affiliate partners.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies to you, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent — for analytics cookies and marketing emails. You may withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interests — for essential cookies, site security and understanding aggregate readership, balanced against your rights.
- Contract — where we need to reply to a request you made.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete your data.
- Object to or restrict processing.
- Withdraw consent, including unsubscribing from emails at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these, contact us through the form on our About page. We will verify the request and respond within the period required by law.
How long we keep things
Contact form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle the conversation, then deleted. Email list subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis. Analytics data is retained in aggregate only.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS and access to the administrative side is restricted and protected. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of data we hold deliberately small so that there is little to lose.
International transfers
Our service providers may store or process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard offered by the provider.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes affecting email subscribers will be announced by email.
Common questions
Do you sell my email address?
No. We have never sold subscriber data and have no intention of starting.
Do affiliate links change the price I pay?
No. The price is the same whether you arrive from this site or directly. See the affiliate disclosure.
Can I use the site without accepting cookies?
Yes. Essential cookies are the minimum needed for the site to work; you can decline everything else.
How do I get my data deleted?
Send a request through the form on the About page. We will confirm and action it.
