From Screen to Scene: Why I Started SetJetChina

Let’s be honest: once you fall down the C-Drama rabbit hole, there is no climbing back out.

It usually starts with one random recommendation on Netflix or YouTube. For me, that show was The Untamed

I remember finishing the final episode at 3 AM, staring at the screen, feeling that familiar mix of awe and “post-drama depression.” I didn’t just want to watch the story; I wanted to live inside it. I wanted to see those mist-covered mountains, walk the stone bridges of Gusu, and stand on the steps of the Imperial Palace.

But when I tried to look up where these places actually were, I hit a wall.

I realized that there is hardly any information on the internet dedicated to C-Drama filming locations. While there are millions of travel blogs about the Great Wall or the Forbidden City, finding a guide specifically for drama fans is nearly impossible. The information is either non-existent in English, or buried deep in Chinese forums that are hard to navigate.

I realized there was a huge gap between watching C-Dramas and experiencing China.

International fans are intimidated by the logistics: How do I pay without a credit card? Do I need a VPN? How do I tell the taxi driver where to go if I don’t speak Mandarin?

My mission is to help fellow fans like you—who share my passion for C-Dramas—to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and appreciate the incredible artistry behind both ancient historical dramas and modern productions.

But most importantly, I want to help you go “From Screen to Scene” (由画入境).

I want to guide you out of the frame and into the real world, so you can witness the breathtaking landscapes of China—the mountains, the rivers, and the palaces—with your own eyes.

Here is what you can expect to find on SetJetChina:

  • Drama Deep Dives: We don’t just watch; we appreciate. I will share insights and analyses of the most popular plots, helping you relive the best moments.
  • Cultural Decoders: Ever wondered what a specific tradition or reference means? I will help popularize the rich Chinese cultural heritage and history woven into these stories.
  • The “Zero-Barrier” Travel Guide: This is the core. I will provide essential infrastructure guides (apps, payments, transport) to eliminate the physical barriers of traveling to China. My goal is to connect the dots between drama content and real-world filming locations, turning your dream “pilgrimage” into a reality.

So, welcome to the journey. We are just getting started.

I’d love to hear from you: What was your “gateway drama”? And which location do you dream of visiting most?
